This is an important thing to both life and the pursuit of happiness. Without the liberty to act you cannot live under some conditions and cannot find happiness ever. For the sake of separation this passage in the Declarator is devoted to the social liberties our present system affords us.
Our educational system and industry offer endless activities that fill essential roles for all of us in meeting our short term needs. It is the intent of the action that determines if the use of liberty was in service to life or to the pursuit of happiness. Liberties used in service to life are more valid than those used in the pursuit of happiness. This is why the Declaration of Independence orders the words thus, Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, to show us a structure of sacredness in our lives.
When liberty is used in the pursuit of happiness too often, and too much, the deeper meanings of liberty are sometimes compromised in its essential service to life. The usage of the liberty looses its sacredness.
